CSTP+Certified Security Testing Professional+The CSTP+ qualification is awarded to delegates who have previously achieved CSTA+ status, have completed the CSTP Ethical Hacking: Hands-On 2 training course and passed the accompanying examination, and who choose further their education in this area by completing a university-assessed practical assignment, including a written element, in the field of penetration testing ('ethical hacking'). In the practical assignment, candidates are required to perform a penetration test against a test network, identifying known security issues in addition to penetration of targets where possible. Candidates will document their methodology and results and the written element of the assignment will be based on these findings and marked by the University. The pass mark for this assignment is 40%, with marks between 50 and 69% attracting a merit grade and marks 70%+ achieving distinction. Overall knowledge of penetration testing is assessed, including understanding of pre-test and reporting activities. Operating Systems in scope: Windows, Unix. Successful candidates will gain 15 MSc credits to put towards a Masters (MSc) in Computer Security & Forensics, or 10 PgC credits they can put towards a PgC in Penetration Testing & Information Security. To successfully complete the CSTP and CSTP+ assessment process demonstrates a thorough theoretical and practical understanding of testing for vulnerabilities in IT systems and networks. The certifications build on the knowledge required to achieve CSTA and CSTA+ status and provides penetration testers with an arena in which to demonstrate a level of competence against the requirements.
