What are the benefits?
From 1 October 2014, government requires all suppliers bidding for certain sensitive and personal information handling contracts, and for providing certain services and products, to be certified against the Cyber Essentials scheme. Organisations that have successfully been assessed against the scheme will be awarded the appropriate Cyber Essentials certification badge to use to publicise this fact. Being able to advertise that you have met a government approved cyber security scheme will give you an edge over competitors in the same market.
What does it cover?
The scheme provides five fundamental technical security controls that an organisation needs to have in place to defend against the most common form of basic cyber-attacks emanating from the Internet, and that they will then be independently assessed against for Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus, as follows:
